:: Welcome to www.LeeSainsbury.com - You are a guest or have not logged in ::

This site is an ongoing project, that enables me to keep track of and link to useful pieces of news, articles, tools and downloads that might become useful - one day!

The site was originally born as www.tools4windows.net and then progressed to www.mswindowspro.net. Both were mainly focused on Microsoft related technologies - hence the names, but now I needed a name which encompassed a bit more, so thought I'd have my name before somebody somebody nicked it!

Now it's time to move one stage further. I'm going to continue to write and link to useful Microsoft news and stuff but I will also be writing about other stuff that interests me.

So what are you waiting for? Register and come on in!

Installing Windows 7 Public Beta on a Virtual PC
Windows 7

Yesterday Microsoft made the Windows 7 Beta available for public download.

"If you have a spare test machine that supports the system requirements then I highly recommend installing the beta on your test machine. But if not, one way to mitigate the risks of using pre-release software is to use virtualization technology such as Microsoft Virtual PC 2007.

Creating a Windows 7 Beta 1 virtual image (aka virtual machine) is fairly similar to the process you would go through to install the Windows 7 Beta “on the metal” (non-virtualized). But for people who have never used Virtual PC before there are some differences.

Here is how to install the Windows 7 Beta with Virtual PC 2007."

And you thought your mobile phone bill was big...
Mobile Devices

Another jet-setting TV addict has fallen foul of unreasonable roaming fees, this time to the tune of £31,500, just to get their TV fix - just as the EU considers how best to curtail the operators' roaming rates.

The chap concerned was on holiday in Portugal when he decided to forgo the local sights and download an episode of the TV drama Prison Break, along with a few music tracks, and was stunned to get a bill for £31,500 on his return.

Explosion knocks out hundereds of servers at The Planet
NewsMy weekend has been ruined. My favourite website B3TA.org has been knocked off the web due to an electrical explosion at their hosting provider.

"Today at approximately 5:45 p.m., a transformer in our H1 data center in Houston caught fire, thus requiring us to take down all generators as instructed by the fire department. All servers are down."

A load of other sites have also been affected - PocketPCThoughts, MobilitySite.com to name two others.

The guys and girls at The Planet have been working round the clock to restore services, but it's a massive task for them but they are getting there - slowly.

The last reported update (at the time of putting this article up) was:

"Power in H1 Phase 1 has been restored. We are starting to turn customer servers on in batches."

To be fair - they have kept people informed - even when they have no real news on a few occasions. This is how it should be done and a few companies could learn a thing or two from their forum thread.

Fingers crossed for some hardcore B3ta action tomorrow!

More news here and hourly updates from The Planet here.

Say hello to the HTC Diamond
Mobile DevicesAs you know, Microsoft are a rather large company with lots of software (and re branded hardware) One of those product lines provides HTC with a mobile operating system - Microsoft Windows Mobile.

Today in London, HTC launched their latest device at an invite only press event - the HTC Diamond, which is of course powered by Microsoft Windows Mobile.

The device also incorporates a new version of the HTC TouchFLO technology called TouchFLO 3D. TouchFLO 3D is similar in the way it operates to the Apple iPhone.

I'm not really an Apple fan to be honest, although I recently "upgraded" my old Creative Labs Touch (what's with the name Touch these days?) MP3 player to a nice new Apple video iPod - which is very nice indeed.

Anyway, we digress. The HTC blub reads:

Re-defining the perception of advanced mobile phones… the HTC Touch Diamond™ signals a giant leap forward in combining hi-tech prowess with intuitive usability and exhilarating design.
